This is a wonderful piece on a nightmarish subject. I've always thought that the current state of consumption and destruction can not be maintain for very long. We will be sober or we will not be at all ! 🙏
Good one, The collapse monster of this interconnected dependent global systems we all depend on, has just come round the nearest corner. It appears that rather than measures to protect all, the beligerent parties are intent on demolishing as much of other peoples industrial systems as possible, and their dependent populations, as humanity goes into "fortress world" mode , let every tribe fend for themselves, as an extension of current competitive capitalism.
Another excellent article that explains in detail the catastrophic consequences of the current situation. And it’s probably right on every point. There are real reasons to be deeply concerned.
And yet I’m still waiting for an article that would explain what the consequences might have been of inaction, of leaving control of Ormuz and indeed the entire region in the hands of fanatics armed with ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons ?
If they're really unstoppable right now (and hopefully they are not !), one can only imagine what it would have been like if they'd had nuclear immunity 😕
This is the counter argument, Felipe: The closure of the Strait of Hormuz may be the only way the world can bend their use of hydrocarbons that are killing our biopshere upon which our survival depends. That safety net for the most vulnerable needs to be built Now. Fifty years of warnings and public information have failed. So now the world tries something different.
Or demanding plastic to fertiliser with cold Plasma. Or using bacteria and fungi bleaching for copper bleaching and so on! We are too slow, as a group we are bad with scale and time.
The Spanish equivalent to "billion" is "mil millones." Purists correctly translate "billón" (español) as "trillion" (English). No problema if the intent is to say "one hell of a lot."
My first job as a recently minted engineer was in a traditional setting, contiguous with the factory. I was told that during WW2, minimally trained women "manned" the factory. Two woman in a coffee break wondered how many "thousandths" there were in an inch. One was heard observing that "there must be millions of them." (This might be an urban legend."
Ignore the sexism and laugh. Laughing is the only way to deal with the approaching collapse.
The instigators of the war resulting in closure of production are members of Chabad, described as death / satanic cult with the belief (summarized) that making life miserable for most (war, famine, disease etc.) will accelerate the cult-predicted messianic arrival.
Such characters should have been prevented from taking office long ago.
What isn't mentioned is the effect of reduced industrial activity: (much) less aerosol production will increase the effect of what has been predicted as active El Niño end of this year, IOW more extreme weather events, further reducing harvests.
Years ago I had a friend who enjoyed debating, if I seemed to have prevailed on the issue, his final statement was always- You might be right but So What !
I already read it in Spanish, but I agree it should be available for a larger audience. Thank you Ugo

I think it was the right choice to become a prepper 20 years ago.

The non-alarmist tone aggravates the case for serious alarm.
I do fear most population in the OECD COULDN’t care less. Consume, consume, consume.

Great piece of writing though I hate the message it carries.
But I prefer to read about the reality instead of anything else, so thanks for this.
Another thing I thought of now:
All this coincides very well with the expected outcome of the models used in The Limits to Growth, right?
Industrial decline to begin around 2025.
Just not with this particular reason in mind, namely a closed off strait.
Or demanding plastic to fertiliser with cold Plasma. Or using bacteria and fungi bleaching for copper bleaching and so on! We are too slow, as a group we are bad with scale and time.
Thanks! I feel a lot less crazy already for thinking that this must be the end of capitalism.
Trivial translation comment:
