Interesting! Perhaps you have written on this elsewhere, but I wonder if the increasing cost of fossil energy over the coming century might also drive a similar return to smaller settlements? Indeed, to sustain megacities like Bombay or Shenzhen purely on renewables requires a much larger distribution network given the diffuse nature of these sources, and having a thousand small Catal-Hoyuks near solar/wind farms is probably easier than one giant Lagos with thousands of kilometers of wires extending in all directions.

P.S. [Possible minor correction] I believe the translation of "شاهد" (shaahid) is more like "witness"; martyr being "شهید" (shaheed). Both words do share the triliteral root "ش ه د" though.
